Ingilube Overview
The
Manuscript,
Ingilube, follows the adventures of a young Zulu boy
in the first half of the nineteenth century. Conceived out
of wedlock,
Ingilube’s life is fraught with torment and ridicule
and he plots his mischievous revenge on the small village in
which he resides.
Unbeknown to
Ingilube, his life
is of great significance to the Zulu people and he is
blessed with the wisdom of the Sangoma (Witchdoctor).
It is during his adolescence that
Ingilube is sent
away to the mountains to be taught by the mysterious and
much feared Magogo – a Master of witchcraft.
Ingilube
triumphs through physical beatings of his peers and the
tragedy of his mother’s assassination before moving on to a
series of adventures and exciting encounters including the
first interface with English and Dutch Settlers.
Through his progression into manhood,
Ingilube cherishes
his love for the beautiful Thandi and his adventures lead
him on a path back towards her.
Ingilube
was written as a “teens” read, however, has been extremely
positively received by critics of all ages. Combining
raucous humour with moments of great sadness,
Ingilube is a
factually correct manuscript that follows the rise and fall
of King Shaka and his evil successor Dingane.
