Black Sparrow Hawks |
|
Documentary overview:
Based on the life journey of two young Black Sparrow hawk chicks removed from their nest at a very young age, to improve the survival rate of the remaining chick left in the nest as well as to play their part in the conservation of their species.
Being removed from the nest at a very young age, these chicks will be hand raised at a special facility to help improve their chances of survival. Unfortunately avoiding human imprinting on these chicks is impossible as they will be handled by humans on a daily basis. This however will be to the birds’ advantage as they will become part of a falconry family that will be their caregivers, until they are ready to be placed into a breeding program and help with the conservation of this specific raptor species. Once these birds that we are going to follow enter into the breeding project, all of their chicks will be released back into the wild and will have been exposed to the least amount of human imprinting on them.
This documentary will follow the story of these two Black Sparrow Hawk chicks from the day that they are removed from their nest in the wild, until they are placed into a breeding program from where their chicks will be released as wild birds. Not only will the documentary focus on the birds’ journey, but focus will also be placed on the people involved in the birds’ life and the role they play in making these birds’ lives a conservation success. Emphasis will be placed on the conservation issues surrounding these birds of prey as well as the threats they face in the wild and in an increasingly human populated world. |
